POR UN PARLAMENTO AFGANO SIN CRIMINALES DE GUERRA

This must end
For an Afghan Parliament without war criminals

The war criminals who committed all kind of atrocities in Afghanistan during decades of conflict are now in the Afghan government or are members of the Parliament. All of them reached power, in part, because they received the support of the International Community who wanted them as allies.

The endemic corruption in Afghan institutions is caused by the presence of war criminals in power. The Afghan population wants and is moving towards keeping these war criminals out of the Parliament and the Afghan government.

In September 2010 parliamentary elections will be held in Afghanistan. The European Union and the United States will be the principal financial sponsors of these elections. This is your chance to change things.

Ask the European Union and the United States government to:

  1. Not fund any elections involving candidates who are responsible for human rights violations.
  2. Provide economic assistance only under the condition that the Government of Afghanistan respect human rights and the rights of women, and purge the Afghan administration of war criminals.
  3. Pressure the Government of Afghanistan to suspend the amnesty law that was approved by the Parliament and which gives immunity to the war criminals.
  4. Actively support those Afghan civil associations that work towards justice and the end of impunity for war criminals.

You can help gain a better future for Afghanistan. We need your signature. This must end.

Once you sign this statement, an email will be sent automatically to the following authorities and parliamentary groups from the European Union and the United States:

President of the European Council, Presidency of the Council of the European Union, The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, The Group of the European People's Party, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists Democrats in the European Parliament, Alliance of Democrats and Liberals for Europe, Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance, European Conservatives and Reformists, Co federal Group of the European United Left/ Nordic Green Left, Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group, Embassy of the United States in Kabul.
